Cluster Management Board are asking colleagues to attend a special Cluster meeting to discuss the implications of the White Paper and to consider how schools could work together.

An Invitation

“The Importance of Teaching”, the schools white paper and the potential impact on the way we work in the Cluster.

Key questions will be discussed:

What are the opportunities and how can we retain and create solutions at a time of great fiscal challenge?
What is the best way forward for all our schools?

When: 11th January 2011

Time: 4.00 p.m.—5.30 p.m. (refreshments provided)

Location: Longton City Learning Centre

Whole School Reading

Dave Eaglestone and Heather Atkinson will jointly deliver a half day session on the development of a whole school reading approach. This will include an opportunity to look at how Accelerated Reading (AR) works in primary schools as well as how our secondary schools have used AR combined with Reading Champions/Buddy Reading to great effect. Renaisance Learning will be presnt to give an online demonstration of how AR works and what data is available to a class teacher.

This session is aimed at Headteachers.

Buddy Reading training

Dave Eaglestone will deliver a half day training event on Buddy reading.

Aimed at TAs/classroom assistants and parent volunteers this training will allow you set up your own inter school or year Buddy Reading project.

New Middle Leaders programme

Ian Wilson, on behalf of HTI will deliver another successful Middle Leaders programme for Cluster 3. Following evaluations of last years programme we will be offering the following modules:

The Emotionally intelligent leader: the framework for the programme
Personality at work: building self-awareness and awareness of others to better understand people’s behavior and motivations
Managing people at work: developing the model of competency based leadership
Coaching skills: the importance of coaching as a management tool
Leading effective teams

Each session happens monthly allowing time between sessions for reflection.

Who is the course designed for: The course is aimed at middle leaders in both primary and secondary schools and is designed around the Glaser model of learning and will take into account all learning styles:

Activities will include syndicate as well as plenary discussion, role play and practical exercises
Time for reflection through keeping a personal learning log
Intellectual rigour—depth to the concepts introduced
Practical solutions and ideas that can be taken back into the workplace.

Dates: 15th November 2010; 6th December 2010; 10th January 2011; 14th February 2011; 14th March 2011.

New Cluster DVD

Cluster 3′s latest DVD is about to be circulated to schools. This new DVD features top tips on early writing, shared reading and phonics. Better Words training

Andrea and Sue from Gladstone are running a repeat session of Better Words training session on 18th Nov 09.00 until 12.00. This follows on from the very successful training earlier in the year.

Participants will receive a complete resource pack to take back to school. These resources will be provided by ROWA!

Booking forms will be sent out from Kay by mid October.

Dates for Cluster meetings can now be found in the Diary section of the website. Please note that due to non availability of Tuesdays at the CLC our Cluster Management Board and Enjoy and Achieve meetings will be held on Wednesdays from 08.30 – 10.30
